Western Suffolk Masonic District Summer Fest

After weeks of planning, days of preparation and one postponement, the first Annual Western Suffolk District Mid-August Masonic Summer Fest is now in the books and can officially be labeled a success. Several brothers from Babylon, Jephtha and Alcyone Lodges put in long hours for this fundraiser in support of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Not one, but two massive pig cookers and a pro BBQ grill were put to work behind Babylon Masonic Lodge on Main Street in Babylon. Over 230 people attended, where live music and a bounce house for the kids entertained guests of all ages. Tray after tray of different meats was filled then quickly emptied by the hungry guests. Beer and soda were pouring non-stop inside and out. And there was ice cream for all. Not even the threat of rain could not dampen the spirits of all the participants.

The secret was not in the barbeque sauce (although it was very good), but in the fellowship and camaraderie between three separate lodges coming together for this experimental undertaking.

The fraternity showed what it could accomplish by choosing a worthy cause that benefits from all the hard work the Brothers put in and showcase once again what Masonry is about. Over $2500 was raised for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children on this one day, and impressive start for what promises to be an annual fundraiser.
